One of the most popular longboard brands out there today is no doubt Sector 9 Longboards, a manufacturer founded in La Jolia, California, that has been around since 1993. Sector 9 Longboards have for a long time been the go-to longboard brand for many longboarding beginners because they are known for making consistently high-quality and affordable boards.
So, it is only time that I finally review a Sector 9 Longboard! That’s right -- today on Longboard Reviews I’ll be reviewing the Sector 9 Aperture Longboard, which is a great longboard for cruising -- one of the best cruising/carving longboards for beginners. The Sector 9 Aperture Longboard was recently mentioned in my list of Best Beginner Longboards. Chances are that you’ve probably heard of this longboard -- it’s really popular! You must be excited. Keep reading to see what I think of this longboard!
Sector 9 Aperture Longboard Review
The first thing you’ll want to know about the Sector 9 Aperture Longboard is that it has sidewinder trucks. Not many longboards utilize sidewinder trucks at all, and these are Gullwing sidewinders, which are awesome sidewinder trucks. The sidewinder trucks on this beauty makes it a lot easier to carve and cruise with for beginners. It is a drop-through longboard with a nice flex. It also has a nice length at 36 inches -- excellent for cruising.
Let me summarize the specifications of the Sector 9 Aperture Longboard here:
- 7 Ply Maple Board
- Drop Through Design
- Gullwing Sidewinder Trucks
- 36 inch length
- 1.5 inch Low ProSteel Bolts
- Grip taped
Pros and Cons: Sector 9 Aperture Longboard
The Sector 9 Aperture longboard is one of the best carving/sliding longboards for beginners. It really is -- with it a newbie can learn to slide beautifully after some tries. I would definitely credit this to the Sidewinder trucks and drop through deck which severely minimizes wheel bite -- they make this longboard, as many owners would put it, very “carvey”. Yes, it is very carvey indeed; I can not possibly emphasize how easy it is to make turns and slides on this nifty looking board.
Don’t believe me? Check out the video below, of a newbie learning to slide on his Sector 9 Aperture:
Pretty damn amazing, huh? If you want to do really cool sliding and carving as a beginner, look no further than the Sector 9 Aperture longboard. On top of that, the longboard has a nice grip and flex so people of most weight groups can skate on it comfortably. It also has the potential to go at really good speeds.
So, what are the cons?
Well, for one, the Sector 9 Aperture longboard is not great for downhill riding or hillbombing. If you’re looking to ride down hills really really fast on a longboard, I suggest looking for a different board instead. It isn’t really built for extreme speeds because of the size of the wheels, so this board is pretty prone to speed wobbles. The sidewinder trucks, meant for carving, will undoubtedly swerve more, making it not too safe for high-speed downhill riding. If you want to bomb really steep hills with the Sector 9 Aperture longboard, I would suggest either tightening the trucks a little or changing the wheels. If not, consider another longboard more suited for downhill riding!
Pros
- Absolutely AMAZING for carving/cruising!
- Good speeds
- Not suited for downhill riding
Verdict: Sector 9 Aperture Longboard
The Sector 9 Aperture Longboard is an amazing longboard for carving and cruising -- especially for beginners. Rest assured, you won’t find a better longboard for sliding at this price. Granted, downhill riding might be a little hard with it, but it can easily be remedied by making a few adjustments.
If you’re looking for a great quality cruising board for the price, look no further: The Sector 9 Aperture Longboard is perfect.
