It’s a question that has been asked many times. The answer is yes, you can longboard if you are fat. Many people assume that since they are overweight, they can’t skate at all or just ride a board with four wheels like a sidewalk surfer. That’s not true! Moreover, It works in the opposite way, as it is beneficial to your health.


Can I longboard if I’m fat?

Longboarding is great for anyone and everyone who wants to learn how to skateboard. Yes, You may need more time on the board than someone who is leaner but there are plenty of people in the world who have accomplished many things while being overweight and it’s never too late to try something new (or old).

If you’re fat and want to get into longboarding, then the answer is yes. It’s not a sport that discriminates against people because of their weight. You can be as heavy as you want and still have just as much fun on your board!

The most important thing is getting used to balancing on one foot while also pumping with the other leg in order to go up hills or over bumps. Start by riding near-flat surfaces first before moving onto more intense terrain like downhills or ledges. 

Once you’ve mastered this basic skill, it’s time for tricks! One trick that beginners might find easiest is simply pushing off from one side of the board with your back foot and shifting your weight accordingly so that when the back foot touches the ground, you are standing on your front leg. 

This is a pretty easy move to pull off and it’s also what many people use as their first kickflip so that they can get into more advanced tricks like 360 flips or even nose manuals! Though I don’t suggest starting flipping with your bord on the first go!

Why can’t we just be happy with what we have:

If you’re fat and want to longboard, go for it! You can still skate just as well as anyone else. You don’t need to be skinny or lean to do tricks on a board with four wheels like sidewalk surfing. It’s all about balance and learning the basics before trying more advanced things.

  • What size should I buy?

Longboards come in a variety of different sizes to fit any weight and height. The most common ones are about seven or eight inches wide, but they can be as narrow as four or five inches if you have smaller feet (or wider than nine for those with larger feet). If your fat isn’t too heavy, then the standard six-inch deck might work just fine!

It’s also important not to get something too long, like a ten-inch board, because it might be difficult to maneuver.

  • How heavy is too heavy?

Longboards usually come in sizes from six to ten inches wide, so the weight limit on a board will depend on its size. An example would be that if you are 230 pounds or less then get something around the five-inch width with no problem but if our weight exceeds 260lbs we might want to consider getting one at least seven inches wide.

It’s important not only what height (or length) you are but also how it will affect your balance. If you are heavier, then a wider board with more stability is the way to go!

If you’re having trouble balancing then getting an even wider board may not be the best idea as this would make things worse–but if you feel comfortable on your current board just give it some time before upgrading.

It all comes down to personal preference: what feels right for each individual? Some people might find that an extra-wide board is what they want while others may find a shorter deck to be more manageable for them.

How to modify your longboard so it will work with your body type?

We’re not going into the detailed components of the longboard, which you might already know. If not you can read this section.

But for equal weight distribution, those parts play an important role and make a difference for you. If you know this you don’t have to wonder or ask your self again and again “Can I longboard if I’m fat”!

-Wheels: Bigger wheels are generally more stable, but they also weigh the board down and make it slower to accelerate. Smaller ones give better acceleration but aren’t as stable at higher speeds. If you’re worried about stability go with bigger; if speed is your concern, go small!

-Grips: A lot of people complain about the grip size. You can always replace it if you are uncomfortable and want a more ergonomic way to ride your board! (Larger or smaller grips available depending on height – But not everyone has access to this at their local skate shop).

-Kingpin Bolts: Kingpin bolts are the most important thing on your board! They hold together all of your wheels, bearings, and hardware to make sure that everything’s working properly. (These should be tightened every time you ride!)

-Rotors: Smaller rotors allow a looser feel but don’t offer as much stopping power or stability. Larger rotors offer a tighter feel but less stopping power and stability. (If you’re concerned about safety, go with bigger)

-The Board Material: Boards come in many shapes and sizes so be sure to get what fits your needs!

-Weight Capacity: Different boards have different weight capacities depending on the shape, wheel size, rider’s weight, and height.

-Trucks: Trucks are the metal brackets that attach to your board and hold on your wheels.

Wheel Size: (Most longboards come with 65mm or 75mm)

The flexibility of Board: (Soft boards offer a lot more flexibility while hard boards give you stability.)

Riding Styles: Aggressive riders might want softer, tougher trucks for increased maneuverability and grip whereas less aggressive riders may prefer harder, lighter trucks for better speed control.

Wheels can be broken down into two categories; soft wheel/hard wheel (Duro). A Duro is what most people think of when they hear “longboard.” These have an inner core made from urethane or polyurethane.

Soft wheels are good for soft surfaces, like sand or rough pavement. 

They may also be a better choice if you’re heavier because they’ll provide more grip and stability to the board while going over bumps in terrain. If you want an easier time rolling on slippery surfaces (think wet tile floor), choose hard wheel/soft sport tire longboards. 

Hard wheels can also be a better option if you plan on doing tricks with your board since it’ll give you more control when stopping and starting quickly.

If speed is what matters most to you, get a harder truck so that your wheels don’t slip around as much but beware of sharp corners and cracks where hard trucks could lose their grip! Soft boards offer less precision, but they are easier to turn.

This is because skateboarding requires you to push off the ground like a spring whereas in longboarding your feet can remain stationary allowing for smoother rolling from start to finish.
